extra curricular activities
As well as all the fabulous things we do at school each day, at Waubra Primary School our students take part in a range of educational, fun and diverse experiences. These include, but are not limited to:
F.A.S.T. (Fun After School Time) Program: Children at Waubra Primary School are given the chance to participate in the FAST Program held every Wednesday for an hour after school. During this time they are provided with afternoon tea and participate in workshops designed to broaden their understanding of the world around them. Experiences range from environmental studies, sport, cooking, drama and even circus skills and are run by local community and business members.
Swimming Program: Each year in Term Four every child in the school participates in a 10 week swimming program where students are instructed in small groups at their ability level with a focus on safety in the water, swimming for survival and stroke technique. This program is run at the Ballarat YMCA - Aquatic Centre and the students travel in and out on the school bus.
School Camping program: Every year students from Grades 2 to 6 attend a three day camp. The venues alternate from year to year providing new ways for the children and teachers to challenge themselves and grow not only as individuals but as part of the 'Waubra Team.'
Cluster Camps: As Waubra Primary School is part of the ‘7 Hills Primary School Cluster’ each year our students also have the opportunity to attend an optional camp with students from the other schools in the cluster. The destinations for these camps vary from year to year, and include Melbourne Urban Camp, Halls Gap, Canberra, Cave Hill Creek and Queenscliffe.
School Sports & Inter School Sports: Waubra Primary School holds a full sports day at Llanberris Reserve where students compete in a range of track and field events. Students who are eligible then have the opportunity to go onto the next round of sports, representing our school in the Primary School Zone Athletics.
Sovereign Hill: Every second year our Grade 4/5/6 students attend the Sovereign Hill School experience for two days where they dress up as children from the 1850’s and attend the school in period costume. This is a wonderful experience and one that is loved by all the children who participate.
Excursions and Incursions: Every term at least one excursion and/or incursion is organised to complement the classroom program. These expereinces always have an educational focus but are chosen based on engagement and interest to the children.
